Most of us believe that our assets will automatically pass to our spouse or partner in the event of our death, but this is not the case. The law says that there are clearly defined limits of what your loved ones can inherit if you die without leaving a will and if you are not married or in a legal civil partnership, then it is even more important that you state your intentions in writing. The same is true if you are now in a subsequent relationship and have a new partner.
